Inovonics XR500 Gateways
The Inovonics XR500 is a specialized receiver that utilizes a proprietary wireless protocol to communicate with security and environmental sensors. For facility managers and system integrators, the challenge is often moving this data into standard monitoring platforms like an HMI, Building Automation System (BAS), or Industrial Control System.
Chipkin provides specialized gateway solutions that act as a bridge, translating Inovonics' proprietary data into over 100 industry-standard protocols, including BACnet, Modbus, and SNMP. This allows for seamless remote monitoring and real-time data integration across your entire infrastructure.
Flexible Conversion Solutions for Inovonics
We offer both internal module solutions and stand-alone external gateways to meet different installation requirements. The CAS2700-32 Gateway is a primary tool for these integrations, connecting directly to XR500 hardware via an RS-485 port.
CAS2700-32 GATEWAY
Technical Capabilities:
- Device Mapping: Each connected XR500 appears as an individual device on your BACnet-IP or Modbus-TCP network.
- Point Monitoring: End-device properties such as Alarm 1, Low Battery, and Supervision status are mapped directly to standard protocol objects or registers.
- Efficiency: The gateway only maps flags implemented by the specific sensor (e.g., a single-button pendant vs. a motion sensor), reducing network clutter.
Integration Block Diagram
The following diagram illustrates how the Inovonics XR500 interfaces with the FieldServer or CAS gateway. Please note that capability depends on your specific hardware revision, firmware, and site configuration.
The CAS-2700-32 can support two XR500 receivers per gateway when connected through a daisy-chained RS-485 configuration. This architecture is ideal for large-scale deployments where coverage needs to be extended across commercial campuses.
Proven Expertise: The CAS XR500 Driver
The XR500 protocol driver was developed in-house by Chipkin (CAS) at the specific request of Boeing (Renton) to solve a complex industrial monitoring challenge. Because we own the driver code, our customers receive expert support directly from the engineers who built the solution.
FAQ – Inovonics Integration
1) How many wireless points are supported?
A standard Inovonics XR500 interface can support up to 200 fully supervised wireless points when used with the appropriate DMP module.
2) Does the gateway perform end-device registration?
The gateway presents a list of all devices in range via its web configuration page, allowing an operator to manually register end-devices to the appropriate receiver.
3) Can I use this for life-safety alarms?
Yes. The Inovonics Commercial Mesh Network is widely used for security, duress, and environmental monitoring due to its frequency-hopping, spread-spectrum technology.
