Veeder-Root Integration: Gateways, Services, Resources

Intro to Veeder-Root

Veeder-Root (Gilbarco Veeder-Root) is a global leader in automatic tank gauging (ATG) and fuel tank monitoring for retail fueling, fleets, and critical fuel storage. Veeder-Root TLS consoles such as the TLS-350 and TLS-450 measure inventory, leak detection, line pressure, alarms, and compliance data. To share this data with a building or industrial automation system, you need a reliable protocol gateway that supports both Veeder-Root TLS and your target control network (BACnet/IP, BACnet MSTP, Modbus TCP/RTU, or LonWorks).

Chipkin’s Veeder-Root integration gateways make this connection straightforward. Our solution polls supported TLS panels for real-time tank levels, water levels, temperature, alarms, and configuration points, then maps that data into BACnet objects, Modbus registers, or LonWorks variables for use by your BMS, SCADA, or energy platform. The result is faster commissioning, consistent point naming, and dependable data for operations and compliance.

Use Cases & Industries

  • Gas stations and retail fueling – monitor tank levels, line leaks, and alarms in a BMS.
  • Fleet and backup power – integrate day tanks and generator fuel status into Modbus or BACnet systems.
  • Environmental compliance – centralize UST compliance data (line tightness, sensor alarms) for record-keeping and audits.
  • Multi-site operators – standardize point naming and alarm handling across many Veeder-Root sites into one supervisory system.

How Integration Works

The Veeder-Root TLS protocol is a serial, RS-232 based protocol. Because it is nodeless, each TLS device is addressed individually per port. A dedicated protocol converter is required to translate TLS messages into the protocols used by automation systems. Chipkin gateways handle polling, parsing, scaling, and object mapping automatically, so your BMS or SCADA reads the data as standard BACnet, Modbus, or LonWorks points.

All Veeder-Root integrations run on the FieldServer QuickServer hardware, an industrial-grade platform with dual Ethernet options and RS-232/RS-485 connectivity. This shared hardware simplifies deployment and ensures consistency across sites.

Typical points mapped from TLS-350 and TLS-450 include tank inventory (product and water levels), temperature, alarms, sensor states, dispenser/line status, and selected configuration values. Point lists are tailored to each console and site configuration for plug-and-play commissioning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is Veeder-Root TLS?

A: TLS is the protocol Veeder-Root systems use to communicate fuel tank inventory, alarms, and system status data.

Q: Can one gateway connect multiple Veeder-Root devices?

A: The TLS protocol is nodeless, so one device per port is supported. Multiple gateways can be deployed if needed.

Q: Which networks can Veeder-Root be integrated with?

A: Chipkin gateways can map Veeder-Root TLS data to BACnet/IP, BACnet MSTP, Modbus TCP/RTU, LonWorks, and more.
