SNMP Std Integration: Gateways, Services, Resources
Intro to SNMP
Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is an Internet Standard protocol for collecting and organizing information about managed devices on IP networks and for modifying that information to change device behavior. Devices that typically support SNMP Std include cable modems, routers, switches, servers, workstations, printers, etc.
SNMP Std is widely used in network management for network monitoring. There are two Versions that we officer, the Standard MIB which is mostly referred to here and the Custom MIB which is obsolete and can be ignored.
SNMP Std is a component of the Internet Protocol Suite as defined by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). It consists of a set of standards for network management, including an application layer protocol, a database schema, and a set of data objects.
Chipkin provides a wide range of gateways to communicate with SNMP devices with over 200 other protocols. Request a quote or free consultation today.
QuickServer for SNMP Std
The SNMP Std QuickServer (QS) is a high-performance, fully configurable, and cost-effective protocol gateway for integrating any SNMP Std System.
The Gateway comes basic (250 points) and enhanced (500 points) and can connect to Ethernet ports. Chipkin knows this protocol to source code level – get expert support (Level 1,2) and configuration from day one.

Dual-Ethernet Port QuickServer for SNP
The Dual Ethernet Port QuickServer is the premium secure QuickServer for those needing the best and most secure networks. Besides being capable of handling everything that the classic QuickServer and the QuickServer can handle, it also contains 2 Ethernet ports, can convert up to 10,000 points and has a lot of new security features. It supports 1 RS-485/RS232 Port, 1 RS485 Port, and two Ethernet ports.
With two Ethernet ports, the dual-port QuickServer allows data to move seamlessly across disparate subnets allowing seamless integration with maximum security. Interested? Read More!

Description of the SNMP Std Driver
The SNMP-STD driver allows the FieldServer to transfer data to and from devices over Ethernet using the SNMP Std Version V1 or V2c protocol. The FieldServer can emulate a Server (SNMP Std Agent) or Client (NMS Network Management Station).
The FieldServer provides a generic MIB (Management Information Base) file that sets out the OID (Object Identifiers) structure. The FieldServer Enterprise ID is 6347. A selection of standard MIB-2 OID’s are supported to allow interaction with popular Network Management packages.
When configured as an SNMP Std Agent (Server) the SNMP-STD driver allows SNMP Std Get, GetNext (walk) and Set commands to access Data Arrays using the Integer type. The SNMP Std v1 protocol does not make provision for Floats.
The SNMP-STD driver can send SNMP Std traps. The structure for SNMP Std Traps is provided in the FieldServer’s generic MIB file.
The FieldServer also supports custom MIBs and the automatic generation of the MIB file. It supports setting a custom enterprise ID, object names and custom traps or informs. In custom configurations the FieldServer supports various data types as specified in Section 6.1 of the Manual.
When configured as a Client, the FieldServer can read objects from the Server using Get, GetNext (walk) or GetBulk commands. The GetBulk command is very useful to transfer large amounts of data. The FieldServer can update objects in Agent using the Set command.
The FieldServer can accept any trap or inform as long as all the objects in the message are encoded with a full OID.
The Client side of the driver is considered as a Custom configuration.
