Retrofit and Future-Proofing with LightSweep
For sites that are still operating legacy GE Lighting TLC panels but require modern support, integration, or expanded control capabilities, retrofit options exist to transition the panel architecture toward GE LightSweep. These retrofit kits allow existing relay interiors like RINTER0048 to be repurposed or extended as part of a LightSweep-based lighting control system without wholesale panel replacement.
Retrofit paths typically maintain the mechanical wiring infrastructure (relays and interior modules) while adding newer controller platforms and interfaces. This approach can extend the useful life of existing hardware while enabling support for current communication standards and software tools.
For more information about retrofit kits and supported upgrade paths, see the LightSweep Retrofit Kits for Legacy TLC Panels section on the Chipkin support page.
The RINTER0048 is the interior assembly for a 48-relay GE Lighting Total Lighting Control (TLC) panel. It provides the internal structure, pre-wired relay mounts, and wiring paths required to support the relays and control electronics in a relay-based lighting automation enclosure.
A RINTER0048 interior is typically assembled with two remote control motherboards: an RMOTHER1X (supporting relays 1–24) and an RMOTHER2X (supporting relays 25–48). Together they provide the physical termination and connectivity for a full 48-relay TLC panel.
Panel Assembly Overview
The RINTER0048 is one component of a complete GE Lighting TLC panel assembly. A typical 48-relay panel uses four primary modules:
- Tub (RTUB48)
- Interior (RINTER0048)
- Power Supply (RPWRxxx)
- Cover (RCOV48xxx)
The interior module provides the mounting structure and wiring infrastructure to bring relay outputs, low- voltage inputs, and control board connections together in a standardized layout.
Relay Support and Motherboard Configuration
The RINTER0048 interior supports up to 48 plug-in RR9P-series relays. These relays are pre-wired during panel manufacture, reducing installation complexity and ensuring consistent wiring across all relay positions.
For control and termination, the interior is configured with an RMOTHER1X board for the first 24 relays and an RMOTHER2X board for relays 25–48. Each motherboard provides the electrical interface between the relays, low-voltage control wiring, and panel control cards.
This motherboard split allows for clear organization and straightforward expansion when servicing or reconfiguring sections of the panel.
Control, Status, and Expansion Capabilities
Each relay position in the RINTER0048 interior has an associated LED status indicator that provides visual feedback of relay state. Pilot status wiring supports these indicators so technicians can rapidly verify operation during commissioning or troubleshooting.
The interior also supports multiple low-voltage switch inputs for each relay and optional occupancy sensor control. Expansion sockets allow a variety of plug-in control cards, such as master sequencers, learn-mode cards, or programmable controller cards.
These expansion options allow RINTER0048 panels to support different control strategies without changing the physical interior structure.
Use in Legacy TLC Installations
The RINTER0048 interior was designed for use in GE Lighting Total Lighting Control (TLC) systems, a relay- based panel architecture once widely used for building automation. While TLC is now a legacy platform, many installations remain in service.
When maintaining or servicing older systems, understanding the role of the RINTER0048 interior and its relationship to RMOTHER1X and RMOTHER2X motherboards helps ensure proper replacement and accurate diagnosis of wiring or control issues.
