FieldServer IoT Gateways
FieldServer IoT Gateways provide a flexible way to connect building automation and industrial equipment to Building Management Systems (BMS), local networks, remote users, and cloud applications. Whether you need to translate between protocols, cloud-enable an existing Modbus installation, or remotely monitor a BACnet network, FieldServer offers a gateway designed for the application.
Chipkin offers three main FieldServer IoT gateway families: ProtoAir for flexible multi-protocol integration, Modbus IoT Gateways for Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP/IP, OPC UA, and MQTT applications, and BACnet IoT Gateways for BACnet/IP and BACnet MS/TP discovery, monitoring, troubleshooting, and remote access.
Depending on the gateway, connectivity options include Ethernet, Wi-Fi, dual Ethernet, and LTE cellular. FieldServer gateways include web-based configuration and onboard diagnostics to simplify commissioning and ongoing support. Cloud-ready models can provide remote monitoring, data collection, alarming, troubleshooting, and device management without requiring personnel to be physically present at the site.
Choose a FieldServer IoT Gateway
Start with what you need the gateway to do. Each family is optimized for a different type of integration.

Modbus IoT Gateway
Best for:
Modbus and industrial IoT applications Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP/IP, OPC UA, and MQTT

BACnet IoT Gateway
Best for:
BACnet and industrial IoT applications BACnet/IP, BACnet MS/TP, BACnet Explorer

FieldServer ProtoAir
Best for:
Multi-protocol BMS integration BACnet, Modbus, EtherNet/IP, SNMP, DNP3, and many more
FieldServer Modbus IoT Gateway
Bring existing Modbus equipment into modern IoT and cloud applications.
The FieldServer Modbus IoT Gateway connects Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP/IP devices to OPC UA, MQTT, MSA Grid - FieldServer Manager, and supported third-party cloud platforms. It is designed for installations where Modbus is the primary field protocol but modern remote access and data connectivity are required.
The integrated web interface simplifies discovery, configuration, deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting. Reusable configuration Profiles can reduce commissioning time when deploying similar devices across multiple sites.

From field devices to the cloud
The Modbus IoT Gateway provides an edge connection between existing Modbus equipment and modern business or cloud applications. Data can be collected from serial and Ethernet devices and made available through MSA Grid, MQTT, OPC UA, and supported cloud integrations.
This allows existing equipment to remain in service while adding remote access, centralized monitoring, data collection, and IoT functionality.
FieldServer BACnet IoT Gateways
Purpose-built visibility and remote access for BACnet networks.
FieldServer BACnet IoT Gateways connect BACnet/IP and BACnet MS/TP devices while providing integrated tools for network discovery, monitoring, troubleshooting, and data collection.
Built-in BACnet discovery can identify BACnet/IP and BACnet MS/TP devices without requiring a separate discovery tool. BBMD discovery is also supported, making the gateway useful during commissioning as well as for ongoing remote support.
- BACnet/IP and BACnet MS/TP connectivity
- Built-in BACnet network discovery
- BBMD discovery support
- Monitor View, historian, and event logging tools
- Web-based configuration and diagnostics
- Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and cellular hardware options

FieldServer ProtoAir
The flexible choice for multi-protocol integration.
ProtoAir is designed for applications where equipment using one protocol needs to communicate with a different building automation or industrial system. A single ProtoAir can connect serial and Ethernet devices to BMS networks while also providing IoT and cloud connectivity.
ProtoAir supports common protocols including BACnet, Modbus, EtherNet/IP, SNMP, DNP3, and many others. This makes it particularly useful for OEM equipment manufacturers and system integrators that need one platform capable of supporting many different applications.
- Broad multi-protocol support
- Serial and Ethernet device integration
- Wi-Fi and LTE cellular models
- Web-based configuration and diagnostics
- Remote monitoring and troubleshooting
- Suitable for OEM and system integration applications
Remote Access with MSA Grid - FieldServer Manager
Cloud-connected FieldServer gateways can provide secure remote access to installed equipment, allowing integrators and equipment manufacturers to monitor systems, troubleshoot installations, manage configurations, and collect data without travelling to the site for every service call.
Depending on the gateway and application, data can also be made available to supported third-party systems and cloud applications using technologies such as RESTful APIs, Webhooks, MQTT, OPC UA, and secure cloud integrations.
Which Gateway Is Right for My Application?
When you need flexible protocol conversion between different building automation or industrial systems.
When Modbus is the primary field protocol and you need OPC UA, MQTT, remote access, or cloud connectivity.
When you need BACnet discovery, monitoring, troubleshooting, data collection, and remote network access.
Still not sure? Chipkin can help select and configure the correct gateway for your application. Send us your device documentation, point list, protocols, and network requirements and we can recommend the appropriate FieldServer solution.
